Calendar Girls is based on a true story about a group of Women’s Institute members who decide to do an \u2018alternative\u2019 calendar to raise money to buy a settee for the cancer wing of the local hospital.<\/p>\n

When Annie’s husband dies of leukemia and after months of sitting in the relatives waiting room Annie and Chris come up with the idea of doing a nude calendar to raise funds to replace the settee in the waiting room. The play follows the group as they plan, organize and execute the calendar and how they deal with all the emotions along the way. When the news of the calendar goes global the play looks at how that affects the friendships and lives of the ladies in the group as the fame of it all puts a strain on each and every one of them. The play is both a hilarious and emotional but very poignant as it deals with the raw emotion of death as well as challenges within the friendships and how each woman has a hidden agenda driving them to do the calendar. Ultimately the calendar is a huge success to a level never imagined by any of the women.<\/p>\n

The play is set in modern times in a church hall in the rural village of Knapeley, Yorkshire, England. It is over two acts with a 15 minute interval in between.<\/p>\n
