Opportunity: Technical Director

The position of Technical Director for Bedford Players will be available starting in the upcoming season (2024-25).  We are now accepting expressions of interest in this volunteer position.

NOTE: The Technical Director, in the context of Bedford Players, is responsible for lights and sound only.

Duties

  • Develop a technical plan (lighting and sound) in collaboration with the Director
    • Prepare a technical script, noting all sound and light cues
    • Set up and maintain all equipment and instruments
    • Collect sound and musical effects from a variety of sources
    • Operate the sound and lighting equipment during production in accordance with the
    technical script (or has it run by the technical assistants)
    • Discuss technical requirements with the Director near the beginning of rehearsals. Read
    the play. Continue communicating with the Director regarding his/her vision.
    • Attend some rehearsals.
    • Hang/adjust lights
    • Provide support and training for Technical Assistants

Time commitment

Meet with the director during the first 2 weeks of rehearsals to
discuss technical requirements. Attend 2-4 rehearsals to evaluate cast movement on stage
to be able to develop a lighting plan. Building sound cues typically requires 5 hours or
less. Lighting the stage for the production will typically require 15-20 hours with a
lighting crew. Usually for the two weeks prior to opening night, go to most rehearsals.
Run technical elements (sound/lights) for the technical rehearsals, dress rehearsals and
performances.

Transition – the current Technical Director is happy to answer questions and provide support to the incoming TD for a smooth transition.

Space – Bedford Players performs in a church hall with seating for 136.

Equipment

  • Lights – All LED fixtures, ETC Nomad control
  • Sound – QLab 5
  • MacOS used for both systems
